After having children, I was happy to discover that my parents had kept all of my old Lego sets, even including the instructions.
Everything was stored at the attic of parents, so after retrieving it, I began to build a few of the old sets.
One of my oldest sets was #218 from 1977 with three fire trucks and six of the old very large figures. They are easily assembled and seems like they are still a lot of fun to play with for my children of 2 and 5, despite the models being quite fragile by modern standards.
Especially the long frame plate of the truck above was easy to break, which it already did thirty years ago 🙂
The truck carrying the ladder has become more fragile than I remember it as a child – the ladder disintegrates into three pieces if moved, so perhaps the old set is mostly for decorations now. So far I have set it up in a case on the wall in the childrens room along with other old Lego models, so they can enjoy the sight of them, although playing with them will have to wait 🙂
