The rugged mountains surrounding the city of Augusta still in the 1930’s have few roads, so small narrow gauge rail lines are still needed to provide transportation between the towns.
Passenger car #279 is one of the unsung heroes of this transport, being neither grand nor comfortable, it does however provide service to the people living in the great mountain range.
The model is from Minitrains and was originally marked Fiddletown & Copperopolis – see the image in the post about the steam engine #16.
I added a 3D-printed interior from Shapeways, painted it a creme color along with the inner walls. After painting the seats and stoves, I added a couple of figures from Woodland Scenics – from a great set of painted, seated figures without legs – very practical!
I also replaced the European-style couplers on the passenger car with knuckle couplers in N scale. They were simply superglued in place.
The car is *very* small compared to similar normal gauge cars, but is quite charming and inexpensive too, so I bought a number of various types to build up my passenger fleet.
So, with both a completed steamer and passenger car, the first train of the narrow gauge division of the Augusta & New Arcadia is ready to depart!
Now I just need a layout to transport all the passengers on 🙂
